After the surprise cut of TJ Jones by the Detroit Lions on Saturday, a second report came out from NFL insider Rand Getlin: offensive lineman Brandon Thomas, who was acquired by the team last week in a trade with the 49ers for wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, is being released by the team.
I'm told OL Brandon Thomas has been released by the #Lions.

Though the Lions traded for Thomas less than a week ago, they ultimately didn’t have room for him on the final 53-man roster. Detroit got a good look at Thomas in the preseason finale, as he played every single offensive snap for the Lions. However, they must not have liked what they saw.
Thomas is practice squad eligible, and as a developmental project, it makes a lot of sense to put him there. Still, there isn’t much offensive line depth to go around.
As for the rest of the Lions roster, the Lions will be looking for depth elsewhere along the offensive line.
