The dream is, at the least, deferred. Jace Billingsley, who was a long shot to make the Detroit Lions’ roster but continued to shine during the preseason, was waived by the team on Saturday. He was the second receiver to be released by the Lions, following the news of TJ Jones.
The Lions have waived Jace Billingsley.

It’s hard to say goodbye to Jace Billingsley, who garnered our attention during the offseason and won us over during the preseason. A presumed long shot to make the roster from the get-go, Billingsley did just about everything he could to change our minds. He led the team with 12 catches and 146 receiving yards in the preseason, and in the final preseason game he took every single special teams return.
It’s unclear at this time who has won the final receiver spots after Billingsley and TJ Jones were released, as there are rumblings that the Lions might roll with four wide receivers, but the team is still holding onto Andre Roberts and and Jay Lee at this time. If he makes it through waivers, Billingsley is a no-brainer to return to the Lions’ practice squad.
