The running back competition looked stiff this year, but it looks to be that George Winn hasn’t made the cut. The Detroit Lions waived the running back on Saturday, which seems to be a clear sign that Dwayne Washington and/or Zach Zenner will make the team as it currently stands.

George Winn has been on and off the Lions roster since 2014. Jumping between the active roster and practice squad, Winn provided Detroit with special teams value and the occasional carry.
But when Dwayne Washington broke out in the preseason, it became clear Winn’s days were numbered. Winn’s special teams talents were outshined by Washington’s 96-yard kick return for a touchdown in the opening game against the Steelers. Winn, on the other hand, barely touched the ball all preseason.
If the Lions want to keep Winn as insurance, he is eligible for the practice squad as one of four spots for players with 2 acquired seasons in the league.
The Lions roster now stands at 69 players.
UPDATE: Dave Birkett is reporting that the team has notified Dwayne Washington that he has made the final 53-man roster:
The Lions did tell RB Dwayne Washington he made the 53 this week. Certainly possible he handles KR duties this year https://t.co/G0AND4q2fy
