Our preview focuses on how the Lions defense needs to get pressure on Andrew Luck and ensure that he gets brought down after the initial hit. Luck has a knack for extending plays, especially at crucial points in a game.
Look for the Lions to mix up their defensive fronts by utilizing stunts and blitzes to confuse the Colts offensive line. The left guard position is still up in the air at this point, with starter Jack Mewhort and backup Joe Haeg both dealing with injuries. The Colts also have a rookie in Ryan Kelly manning the center position, so it would be to the Lions benefit to test the first year player and bring pressure not only from the edges, but the interior as well. Defenses consistently exploited the Colts' offensive line with stunts and twists last season, and I expect the Lions to utilize them on Sunday as well.
