Happy New Year, Pride Of Detroit. I hope you all had a great evening last night and are well rested for tonight’s game...
... Because it’s going to be wild. The Detroit Lions are a 3.5 point home underdog against the visiting Green Bay Packers. Detroit’s stock is low after dropping two straight games to Super Bowl contenders, while the Packers stock couldn’t be higher after winning their last five games. The psyche of the respective fanbases couldn’t be more polarized for two teams with identical records.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
What chance are you giving the Detroit Lions to pull off the upset over the Green Bay Packers?
My answer: I may have picked the Packers to win by 7 points in my On Paper preview, but I want to be clear: Green Bay is not the scary, Super Bowl contender that some are making them out to be. They are deeply flawed on defense, and while Aaron Rodgers has been able to mask all of that on his own, it won’t hold up when he’s facing the league’s best in the playoffs—if they make it that far.
If the Lions can get their act together offensively, I truly believe they can hang with the Packers for all four quarters. Therefore, I give them a 40 percent chance to win tonight.
Go Lions.
