2017 NFL Draft order: Detroit Lions hold 21st overall pick

After their exit from the playoffs, the Lions will hold the 21st pick in the NFL draft.

NFL: 2016 NFL Draft Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions’ 2016 season is over, which means focus now turns to the 2017 offseason. And with the offseason comes free agency and draft talk.

Though Wild Card weekend isn’t quite over yet, the Lions’ position in the NFL Draft order is set. Because they were outed in the first round and had the worst record among NFL playoff teams, the Lions will be the first to pick out of the playoff teams.

That leaves Detroit at 21st overall in the NFL draft. Here’s a look at the entire order so far—thanks to Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com:

1. Cleveland Browns 1-15
2. San Francisco 49ers 2-14
3. Chicago Bears 3-13
4. Jacksonville Jaguars 3-13
5. Tennessee Titans (via Rams) 4-12
6. New York Jets 5-11
7. San Diego Chargers 5-11
8. Carolina Panthers 6-10
9. Cincinnati Bengals 6-9-1
10. Buffalo Bills 7-9
11. New Orleans Saints 7-9
12. Cleveland Browns (via Eagles) 7-9
13. Arizona Cardinals 7-8-1
14. Philadelphia Eagles (via Vikings) 8-8
14. Indianapolis Colts 8-8
16. Baltimore Ravens 8-8
17. Washington Redskins 8-7-1
18. Tennessee Titans 9-7
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-7
20. Denver Broncos 9-7
21. Detroit Lions 9-7

In addition to the 21st overall pick, the Lions have their normal second through fifth round picks. They also will have an additional selection in the sixth round from the New England Patriots from the Kyle Van Noy trade earlier in the year. While that trade also cost the Lions their seventh-round pick in 2017, Detroit has New England’s seventh-round pick from the Michael Williams trade last year.

In total, the Lions are expected to have eight draft picks in the 2017 draft, assuming all of the conditions were met in the aforementioned trades.
