Thursday Night Football open thread: Eagles at Panthers

Hey, look! A good Thursday Night Football game!

NFL: Philadelphia Eagles at Carolina Panthers Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Week 6 is already here and it couldn’t come soon enough. The Detroit Lions and their fans are hoping to turn the page from Sunday’s game as quick as possible.

Unfortunately Thursday Night Football brings a stark reminder of Sunday’s loss as the Carolina Panthers (4-1) are in action. They will be taking on the Philadelphia Eagles (4-1) in a battle of two of the top teams in the NFL.

For the Lions, this will be a good benchmark to see just how good this Panthers team—that essentially dominated Detroit for 3.5 quarters—really is.

In terms of rooting interests, it may make more sense to root for the Eagles. Since the Panthers beat Detroit, they hold the tiebreaker over them. If the Lions want to jump them in the standings, they’ll have to finish with a better record. The Lions don’t play the Eagles, so their tiebreaker is still yet to be determined.

So let’s enjoy what could actually be a rare good Thursday night game.
