The difference between 3-3 and 4-2 is technically only a single game, but this week, it feels enormous. The Lions could head into the bye week 4-2, no more than a game behind first place in the division and having just picked up a huge conference win on the road.
Or they could lose. Dropping potentially two games behind first place, losing a third straight game to an NFC South opponents, and head into their week of rest on a two-game losing streak. They will also fail to put to rest any claims that they can’t truly compete against the league’s elite team. This team really needs to head into their bye week with some positivity after losing their Week 5 matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
In order to do that, they’ll have to take on the New Orleans Saints, a team they’ve defeated three years in a row and twice on their home turf. The Saints are currently riding a two-game winning streak and are well-rested after their early bye last week.
The Saints have an opportunity to gain ground in the NFC South after the Panthers lost to the Eagles on Thursday. The Lions, on the other hand, are hoping to keep pace with the division-leading Packers prior to their head-to-head matchup in Week 9.
