Lions approval poll: Jim Caldwell (October 2017)

Do you approve of the job Jim Caldwell is doing as Lions head coach?

NFL: Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

With last Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints well behind us and the remaining crucial 10 games of the season ahead, it’s time to check back in with Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell.

When we last polled the audience, the Lions were just about to kick off their 2017 season. Cooler, more optimistic heads had prevailed after fans had grown pretty sour with the way the 2016 season had ended. Caldwell’s approval rating jumped nearly 20 points despite the fact the Lions had not even played another game. Check it out:

September 2017: 63% approval
December 2016: 44% approval
November 2016: 76% approval
October 2016: 57% approval
September 2016: 22% approval
January 2016: 59% approval
December 2015: 12% approval
November 2015: 8% approval
July 2015: 91% approval
January 2015: 89% approval
December 2014: 85% approval
November 2014: 87% approval
October 2014: 94% approval
September 2014: 96% approval
August 2014: 67% approval
June 2014: 77% approval

Since the season began, Caldwell has had an up-and-down season. Detroit was off to a quick 2-0 start, then news suddenly broke that the Lions had inked Caldwell to a multi-year extension earlier in the offseason.

But since then, the Lions have dropped three of their past four games. What looked like a much more dominant team had been humbled by some of the NFC’s best. In some of those games, the Lions looked completely unprepared to handle their opponent’s gameplan.

Throughout it all, however, the Lions have somehow remained competitive into the fourth quarter of every game. Detroit has faced deficits of 14, 17 and 35, and has managed to mount comebacks in all three opportunities. Caldwell’s contagious composure undoubtedly deserves some credit for that, even if they fell just short in all three instances.

So as the Lions head into the final two months of the season, do you approve of the job Jim Caldwell is doing? Vote in the poll below and be sure to backup your choice in the comment section below.
