The Detroit Lions enter Week 5 with a pretty lengthy injury report.
On Wednesday, they had their first practice in preparation for the Carolina Panthers. However, they were without six players and had an addition seven players listed on the injury report.
Rick Wagner (ankle/shoulder), Haloti Ngata (shoulder), and Paul Worrilow (knee) were three new names that sat out of practice. Worrilow is expected to miss 2-4 weeks after injuring his knee on the very first defensive play against the Vikings. Wagner and Ngata both finished the game on Sunday, so their injuries likely aren’t quite as serious.
One of the most interesting things from Wednesday’s injury report was Jarrad Davis being limited with a neck injury. There is no mention of the concussion he suffered over two weeks ago, suggesting he may have finally cleared protocol. However, there were rumors that his neck injury is what held him out of Sunday’s game, not his concussion.
Elsewhere, Tahir Whitehead (pectoral) and Ameer Abdullah (ankle) were both limited in practice on Wednesday. Abdullah left the game late and did not return, but head coach Jim Caldwell said he was cleared to return if they needed him. Whitehead finished the Vikings game having played 100 percent of the defensive snaps.
Here’s a look at Wednesday’s injury report:

The Panthers themselves have a lengthy report of their own. A total of 14 players were listed on their report, eight of which did not practice.
Most concerning for Carolina was that their first and second string centers were out. Ryan Kalil, the team’s first-string center, has missed the past three games with a sore neck. Tyler Larsen has started in his place, but now it appears he’s dealing with a shoulder injury of his own.
Also notable is top wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin sitting out of Wednesday’s practice. However, last week Benjamin rested on the same day, but ended up a full participant in Thursday and Friday’s practice before playing against the Patriots.
