For the majority of the season, national analysts and their opinions typically line up with the local Detroit media. That’s not always the case, but rarely is there a big divide between the two.
Week 12 happens to be one of those rare instances. There is not a lot of consensus anywhere you go on who will win Thanksgiving Day’s matchup between the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings, but it’s clear that nationally speaking, the Vikings are the favorite.
From our five weekly sources across the web, all have a very small majority picking the Vikings over the Lions. In total, just over 63 percent of analysts favor the road team.
Total: 15 of 41 picked Lions (36.6%)
But the Detroit media sees it differently. The Lions have won four straight on Thanksgiving, and they have already upset the Vikings once this year. Coming into Thanksgiving Day as three-point home underdogs, the experts in Detroit are expecting another upset this week.
Total: 16 of 28 picked Lions (57.1%)
And this isn’t just a case of local fan blogs tipping the scales. In the 10 beat writers we followed, five of them are picking the Lions on Thursday. It’s not a majority, but they’re giving a bigger shot for the Lions than the national media.
Either nationally or locally, it isn’t hard to find a good amount of people picking the Lions to upset the Vikings today. If Detroit could pull that off, it would be huge towards their playoff chances.
