Vote for Matthew Stafford as the FedEx Air Player of the Week

It’s election day. Exercise your right to vote.

On Tuesday, Americans around the country exercised their right to vote for various races across the nation. If you live in an area with an active election, and are eligible to vote, I hope you took the opportunity to exercise that right on Tuesday.

If you didn’t get a chance to do so this year, I have good news for you. You can still Rock the Vote (if that’s still a thing) for an issue that we all care deeply about: Detroit Lions football.

This week, Matthew Stafford is up for FedEx’s Air Player of the Week award. Each week, the NFL announces three quarterbacks candidates up for the award, and it’s up to fans to vote on the most deserving candidate.

Here’s a breakdown of this week’s candidates:

Matthew Stafford (@GB) - 26/33 (78.8%), 361 yards, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 132.4 passer rating
Jared Goff (@NYG) - 14/22 (63.6%), 311 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INTs, 146.8 passer rating
Jay Cutler (vs. OAK) - 34/42 (81.0%), 311 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 121.3 passer rating

We can go ahead and eliminate Cutler right off the bat. Though he was incredibly accurate, he had the worst passer rating of the three and averaged a mere 7.4 yards per attempt, while Stafford and Goff both averaged above 10.

You could really make an argument for either Goff or Stafford. Goff averaged an insane 14.1 yards per attempt, while Stafford held up an impressive 10.9 average on 11 more throws. Goff got in the end zone more often and finished with a better passer rating, but Detroit relied more heavily on Stafford, and he put up numbers nearly as good as Goff, who was aided by 162 rushing yards from the rest of the Rams offense.

Either way, you’re a Detroit Lions fan. You should vote for Stafford, and you can do so with a clear conscience, considering how well he played against the Packers on “Monday Night Football.”

To vote for Stafford, head here and select the Lions quarterback from the three options provided. If you want to stuff the ballots, be sure to Tweet out Stafford’s name with the hashtag #AirandGround as often as possible.
