The internet went wild this week after they caught wind of Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston’s extremely odd pregame speech. Take a listen:
The Buccaneers did not “eat a W” on Sunday, losing to the Saints 30-10. On top of that, Winston’s pregame speech earned endless ridicule from just about everyone. USA Today called it “baffling.” NESN called it “brutally awkward.” Even his teammates looked confused.
The speech caught the attention of several Lions players, including T.J. Lang. During an interview with local radio station 97.1, Lang said of the celebration, “That was one of the most embarrassing pregame speeches I’ve ever seen.”
Golden Tate, too wasn’t a fan, responding to this tweet with “REtweet x1000000000”:
Naturally, Matthew Stafford was asked about this speech during his Wednesday press conference, and it’s safe to say that he will not be making an embarrassment out of himself anytime soon.
“I have not eaten a W,” Stafford said laughing when asked about his pregame speeches. “I am not a big pregame speech guy, but no Ws eaten over here.”
That’s a relief. The Lions have that new dietician on staff, and I don’t know what she would say about the nutritional benefits of Ws.
