The Detroit Lions will not be well represented in Orlando this year, as only cornerback Darius Slay was named to the 2018 Pro Bowl team on Tuesday evening. Last year, the Lions originally had no Pro Bowl representatives, but kicker Matt Prater worked his way onto the roster after Matt Bryant and the Falcons made it to the Super Bowl.
This is the first time Slay has been named to the Pro Bowl. In 2016, he was named as an alternative, but didn’t end up making the final roster.
Slay finished second in fan voting among NFC cornerbacks after leading for the majority of the voting period. After Saturday’s two-interception performance, Slay now leads the entire league with seven interceptions. In addition to that, Slay is also tied with Chargers corner Casey Hayward for the most pass breakups in the NFL (20).
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Slay’s Pro Bowl nomination has earned himself a $550,000 bonus.
While Slay is the only one named to the team, the Lions have five players named as alternatives:

All year, Slay has been adamant that a Pro Bowl nomination meant a lot to him. Just this week, Slay said he may start a riot if he doesn’t get the recognition. “It should be a given,” Slay told reporters. “We'll see how it goes. I might have to start a riot (if I don't get in), ain't going to lie.”
No riot needed, Slay. You made it.
