We Detroit Lions fans are dreamers. If we weren’t allowed to dream, being a Lions fan would be one of the most miserable sports experiences one could go through. We dream of a better defense. We dream of a successful running game. We dream of a better future where the Lions have finally have rid themselves of the stigma of their past.
So even though the Detroit Lions’ playoff odds sit at a dreary 14 percent, let us dream for a second of a future in which the Lions get the help they need in the next two weeks.
Today’s Question of the Day is:
If the Lions make the playoffs, which team would you like them to face in the opening round?
My answer: First, let’s look at the candidates. The Lions can still finish with the five or six seed, meaning they would play either a three or four seed. That means they’ll be facing off against a division winner. The Philadelphia Eagles already clinched a first-round bye, so that eliminates them. That leaves the following first round options:
- Minnesota Vikings
- New Orleans Saints
- Atlanta Falcons
- Carolina Panthers
- Seattle Seahawks
- Los Angeles Rams
Logically speaking, the best matchup for the Lions is probably the Vikings. Detroit has already gone on the road and beaten the Vikings this year. Though Minnesota won the last matchup, both teams know each other well, and it may be the Lions’ best chance at their first playoff win since the 1991 season.
But selfishly, I want the Lions to face the Rams. I have never been to a Lions playoff game, and if they were playing in Los Angeles, there’s no doubt that I would go to the game. I fear that Aaron Donald may eat Matthew Stafford alive, but at least I’ll be able to say I was there.
Your turn.
