On Wednesday, Travis Swanson was a full participant in practice for the first time since suffering his concussion in Week 14’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a good sign that Swanson was nearly through concussion protocol, and just the optimism the young center needed entering an offseason in which he could become a free agent.
Unfortunately, it appears Swanson’s recovery took a huge hit on Thursday, as he did not participate in practice at all.
Last year, Swanson needed well over a month to clear concussion protocol after suffering the injury in New Orleans. The concussion lasted through the final five games of the season, and he wasn’t even completely cleared by the time the team did their exit interviews.
Now that this second concussion is lingering into its third week, there should be major concern about Swanson’s future in football. He has a big decision to make this offseason about his career and his well being. I hope he makes the right choice.
