While it looks like Matthew Stafford is trending in the right direction to play on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he may not have the kind of protection he’s hoping for from his offensive line.
Five different offensive linemen were listed on the Detroit Lions’ Thursday injury report. Once again, starters T.J. Lang and Rick Wagner sat out and are looking less likely to play this week.
New to the injury report is Emmett Cleary, who is battling an ankle injury. He joins guard/tackle Corey Robinson and starting center Travis Swanson as players who participated on Thursday, but were limited.
The Lions have struggled both to protect the passer all year—Matthew Stafford has been sacked more than all but one quarterback this year—and to help establish a running game. With the offensive line likely to be shuffled around again this week, it’s looking quite possible they’ll struggle again this week.
For the Buccaneers, the only significant change to their injury report is that starting center Joe Hawley returned to practice as a full participant on Thursday after sitting out Wednesday with an illness. The full injury report follows below.
