It’s Week 14 and even though half of the fanbase’s heads are already a few weeks into the offseason, there are still four games to be played.
This week the Detroit Lions head down to Florida to take on the 4-8 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Lions are clinging to playoff hopes that seem to dwindle with every single NFL game played. The Bucs are picking up the pieces of a lost 2017 season where everything that could go wrong did go wrong.
And while the Lions are desperate for a win and the Bucs are just hoping to save face, as luck would have it, the Bucs are entering the game healthier. Jameis Winston returned last week, and Robert Ayers and Doug Martin cleared concussion protocol this week and are likely to play.
The Lions, on the other hand, have over half of their offensive line on the injury report, their quarterback is dealing with a somewhat serious throwing hand injury, and the defensive line remains beaten up.
But as Jim Caldwell would say, “injuries are no excuse.” If the Lions want to act like a true playoff contender, they should (and need to) beat the Buccaneers.
