Notes: Lions had second-best special teams unit in 2016

The Lions special teams unit drastically improved in 2016.

  • Part of the success of that special teams unit was punter Sam Martin. Sam Martin has a dog. It is a good dog:

  • Joey Bosa won defensive player of the year honors a week ago. He credited Lions offensive tackle, and former Buckeye teammate, Taylor Decker for helping him prepare for the NFL:

  • Travis Swanson wasn’t able to finish the 2016 season, missing the last five games due to a concussion. This has led to some fans to question whether Swanson will ever play again, but the Lions starting center certainly seems ready to get started:

  • Pro Football Focus released the remaining 51 names in their Top 101 Players of 2016 list. Only one Lions player made the list: Matthew Stafford at 99.
