The line held promise, but did they ultimately show any in 2016?

The offseason is in full swing. That gives us plenty of time to talk about free agency (about a month away), the draft (farther away) and continue our positional reviews. This week it’s all about the defensive line, which showed great promise but ultimately did not produce much to write home about. What’s the future for this unit? Where do the Detroit Lions go with what they have and what will they need to replace or bolster in the future? All this and more on this week’s Pride Of Detroit PODcast.

This week on the PODcast

  • An early look into free agency. It’s less than a month out and we discuss who the Lions should be targeting and what needs have to be filled with the money available.
  • Our positional review continues with the defensive line. It was deep, but did the tackles ultimately play up to it? How do we feel about the vaunted depth among Tyrunn Walker, Stefan Charles and Armonty Bryant, and who is coming back next year? What will the Lions do about defensive end depth and playmakers? Is Ziggy set for the future or does he need to show more?
  • Free agency looms but the NFL draft is always the hot topic in town. We make some early talk about key positions and names, and Ryan Mathews explains why he’s fine with drafting a certain tight end in the first round. We also talk some early mid-late round names.
  • Mailbag talks about other sports that the staff follows when there are no Lions on. Ryan professes his love for AFC teams. We also discuss the future of Dan Orlovsky and whether he’s indicated he may be done with playing football.
