It has been five months since Ameer Abdullah injured his foot in the second game of the season against the Tennessee Titans. The Detroit Lions running back was placed on injured reserve and missed the entire season. Back in January, Abdullah was non-committal when asked if he could have returned had the Lions gone deeper into the playoffs, saying, “Don’t know. Can’t give you an honest answer on that.”
Per his Snapchat account, Abdullah remained at the Lions facility for several weeks after the season ended. On Friday, Abdullah posted a video on Instagram showing the progress he has made:
Abdullah appears to be running at full speed or somewhere near full speed.
There were a few interesting comments on Abdullah’s Instagram post. Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs, who was taken in the same draft as Abdullah, posted the following:
While teammate Tahir Whitehead teased the running back:
Players will report back to Allen Park in April for offseason workout programs, and it appears Abdullah will be close to 100 percent by then. While that doesn’t come as much of a surprise—Abdullah said he’d be ready for spring ball back in January—it’s important to note that Abdullah has not suffered an apparent setback and should be more than ready for OTAs in May and training camp in July.
