Players will descend upon Lucas Oil Stadium this week, as the 2017 NFL Combine kicks off on Tuesday. Though the events don’t start until Friday, we will begin to hear about the top NFL Draft prospects this afternoon.
Every year, it seems the most excitement for the combine surrounds the 40-yard dash event. Results of the 40-yard dash are almost always the most circulated and dissected for each player. And while speed and accelerations are extremely important at the next level, it isn’t the be-all end-all.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
What is your favorite NFL Combine event?
Here’s a list of the drills:
- 40-yard dash
- Bench press
- Vertical jump
- Broad jump
- 20-yard shuttle
- 3 cone drill
- 60-yard shuttle
- Position-specific drills
My answer: While I think the 40-yard dash and broad jump are some of the most impressive drills to watch, the only one I really care about watching is the position-specific drills. Though the players aren’t in pads and obviously aren’t in contact-mode, this is at least something that resembles football. I’d rather watch the wide receivers catch the ball or quarterbacks throw the ball than do anything else. Position-specific drills give us the opportunity to see the players do exactly what they’re about to get paid lucratively for. That’s all I want to see.
Your turn.
