Today is a day for celebration and a day for mourning. Today we gather together and watch, if not the most exciting championship game, certainly the one with the most pageantry.
On the other side of the coin, this will be the last "real" football game for seven months. A wasteland is on the horizon, but before we devolve into a society obsessed with meaningless mock drafts while devouring even the haziest of rumors, let’s throw a party and ride the dragon one last time.
The Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots will help us ride into the 2016 sunset, and while I would have preferred to see at least one different team in the championship, this looks to be a pretty solid matchup. So today’s Question of the Day is:
Which team do you want to win Super Bowl LI?
My answer: I’m assuming I’m in the heavy majority of people pulling for the Falcons tonight. I’m equally bored with the Patriots and excited for the Falcons. I love seeing teams win their first championship in years—or in this case, in history. We all witnessed the Cubs and Cavaliers win championships in 2016, and I would love to add Atlanta to the list of franchises that finally turned things around.
If we’re not getting a Detroit Lions championship this year, the next best thing is to live vicariously through another team winning their first Super Bowl. It’s a glimpse into the party we’re all going to be throwing when it eventually happens.
Your turn.
