Among defensive free agents, no name was more popular among Detroit Lions fans than former Patriots cornerback Logan Ryan. The 26-year-old was considered by many to be one of the best free agents available this offseason and a perfect complement to Darius Slay. Unfortunately for those fans, their dreams were dashed late Thursday night when Ryan agreed to terms with the Titans:
Contract details have yet to be released, but Ryan was expected to pull in upwards of $10+ million per year. The top free agent cornerback on the market, Stephon Gilmore, signed a deal earlier in the day with the Patriots reportedly spending $65 million over five years.
UPDATE: Ian Rapoport is reporting Ryan’s deal is for three years and $30 million.
It’s not clear if the Lions had any interest in Logan during any point in free agency. Through Thursday night, Detroit had not been linked to any free agent cornerbacks, and the price tag may have been too high for them anyways. After spending reportedly around $9.5 million on offensive tackle Ricky Wagner, the Lions may have to be a little more careful with their spending the rest of the way.
