The Indianapolis Colts hold the 15th pick in the NFL Draft. Acting as the general manager for the Colts in the Pride Of Detroit Community Mock Draft is user—and friend of the PODcast—Seabeerus. With their first-round pick in the 2017 draft, the Colts select linebacker Haason Reddick out of Temple. Below is Seabeerus’ explanation for his pick:
“After reviewing the Colts’ roster, scouring the internet and watching the cinematic masterpiece Zombies and Perfume on a continuous loop, I concluded that what was needed was defensive line, linebacker, running back and secondary help. Many experts claim that the offensive line needs work, however line play takes time to gel, and I believe that the Colts line will be better this year. Looking at the talent that was left, and what might be there in the second round, I present to you Haason Reddick, linebacker, Temple.
While he may seem like a bit of a reach at pick No. 15, as I dug deeper into this player I found some interesting stats from 2016: 65 tackles (22.5 for a loss) and 10.5 sacks. This was from the defensive end position for the Owls as he made the switch to linebacker at the Senior Bowl. His combine numbers show that he has the athleticism to play as a 3-4 inside linebacker or a 4-3 WILL. Reddick has the versatility to give the Colts defense a moveable linebacker or an edge rusher.
While many may see him as a tweener, I disagree. At 6-foot-2, 237 pounds, he has the size to hold up at the next level and his game tape shows it. At the Senior Bowl he looked like he had always played the position. He will have to improve his tackling technique and get better at shedding blockers, but I feel he could contribute to start the season and crack the starting lineup by midseason. There were other players I considered, but I think at least two of them will be there in the next round.”
