Washington holds the 17th pick in the draft and Pride Of Detroit commenter JackH is the acting general manager. With the pick, JachH has chosen cornerback Tre’Davious White out of LSU. Below is his explanation for the pick.
“Tre'Davious White is the next Richard Sherman. There are certain positions that require pure God-given talent in order to dominate and cornerback is at the top of list. He is the self proclaimed "best corner in the draft." The Redskins need defense in any form. Best player available is what Gruden wants. Most fans believe that Washington needs big bodies on the inside or a Ray Lewis type middle linebacker, but in reality, they need talent.
White could possibly be the best defensive back in the draft. He had an outstanding pro day clocking in at the 4.3 range for his 40. He also finished his career with 167 tackles and six interceptions, as well as 34 pass break-ups and a career-high 14 of those came during the 2016 season. With long arms, ball skills and seasoned experience against SEC competition, he is the perfect piece to learn and grow under Josh Norman and eventually replace Bashaud Breeland.
This draft is deep with defensive lineman and linebackers. The Redskins will address that in the following rounds. Washington needs a talented defensive back to cover the Beckhams, Bryants and Marshalls in the division.
The kid is good. He gets it done one-on-one against elite talent. LSU plays man to man, and he dominated at that level. He is also a plug and play at kick returner which saves a roster spot after the departure DeSean Jackson. Fans may scratch their heads with the pick, but when his rookie contract expires they will be begging management to re-sign him.”
