It has finally happened! The first quarterback in the 2017 Pride Of Detroit Community Mock Draft is finally off the board. With the 25th pick in the draft, the Houston Texans have selected quarterback Mitch Trubisky out of North Carolina. Levy’s Beard is the man with the pick, and below is his explanation:

“The Texans quarterback situation is well chronicled. We know about the $72 million flop that was Brock Osweiler and his NBA style trade to the Browns in the hopes that team could pay an equally outrageous amount of money to a 37year old quarterback that played parts of five games in the last two seasons. His name is Tony Romo. He (fortunately for Texans and their fanbase) works for CBS now.

It’s really a weird conundrum. For a team that is perhaps the best in the NFL at building through the draft, they seem to rely an awful lot on Hail Marys and journeymen to fill the most important position on the roster, and I felt 2017 is the year to change that. Now, I did look at other positions: the Texans have a need at safety and offensive tackle also, but the reality is that I would be taking either the fourth-best offensive tackle or the third-best safety or take the best quarterback in a weak draft class. Still, I considered taking Obi Melifonwu or Jabrill Peppers here as both players would offer a solution to a need, but I felt neither player offered a solution to the Texans’ biggest problem.

Mitch Trubisky did. To be honest, I don't think Trubisky will be a Pro Bowl quarterback, but I do think he will be competent. And competent is more than what the Texans currently have on their roster. If picked in real life, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts over Tom Savage from day one, and he finally gives the Texans a quarterback they can develop on their own.”
