2017 NFL Draft results: Lions take Jalen Reeves-Maybin in the fourth round, 124th overall

To begin Day 3, the Lions chose to better their depth at linebacker and went with Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

With their fourth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft the Detroit Lions have selected Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

Reeves-Maybin is an interesting pick for Detroit. When paired with first-round pick Jarrad Davis, the Lions now have a heavily upgraded linebacker corps, despite coming into the draft with serious problem.

For an NFL linebacker, Reeves-Maybin is undersized. At 6-foot, 230 pounds, he’s most successful when able to run free and use his speed (4.68 40-time at a workout). At Tennessee, Reeves-Maybin had over 100 tackles and 11 tackles for loss in two consecutive seasons.

However, injury is a major concern. Reeves-Maybin had shoulder surgery in 2016 and missed nearly the entire season.

With Detroit, Reeves-Maybin provides immediate special teams value and could be good depth beyond the Lions’ starters at linebacker.
