Football is back!
Well, some practice, at least.
The Lions rookie minicamp, an event that will span the weekend, kicks off today from Allen Park. The three days are filled with non-contact drills, workouts and opportunities for the staff to get some face-to-face time with those rookies drafted by the Lions in the 2017 NFL Draft. Also, the crop of undrafted free agents the team reached agreements with will also participate and have a chance to make an impression on the coaches.
And while Detroit decided there wasn’t a running back that met the value of any of their draft picks, a familiar veteran from the NFC North is likely to participate in this year’s minicamp. Matt Asiata, the former Minnesota Vikings rusher, is looking to find a job, and their just might be a fit for him in Detroit. After reportedly showing an interest in LeGarrette Blount, the Lions seem to be in the market for a back to deploy in short-yardage and goal line situations.
Familiar foes and whatnot aside, here’s today’s Question of the Day:
Which Lions rookie are you most excited to hear about in minicamp?
Ever since Detroit moved back in the third round to select Kenny Golladay, I’ve been curious to hear more impressions about the MAC receiver. Part of what has me so interested in Golladay is his combination of size—at 6-foot-4 he’s the tallest wideout on the team—and speed—he ran a 4.50 at the Combine. The other facet of Golladay’s game I’ll be curious to learn more about is how comfortable he looks running routes. It’s been his biggest knock coming out of Northern Illinois, and Detroit could really use an X receiver to run strong vertical routes to stretch the top off of opposing defenses.
What say you?
