Back in May when the Detroit Lions’ preseason schedule was released, it appeared none of Detroit’s four games were on the national broadcast docket.
But on Monday, NFL Network announced 16 preseason games to be televised for the 2017 season, and the Lions were among one of the announced games. Detroit’s preseason opener against the Indianapolis Colts will be broadcast live on NFL Network on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Prior to Sunday’s game, the Lions and Colts will participate in a series of two joint practices that are unfortunately closed to the public. Last year, the Lions and Steelers did the same in the leadup to their 2016 preseason opener.
For those that aren’t in the local area to watch Lions games, this gives you an opportunity to get a first look at the 2017 Detroit Lions team. As for the other three games of the preseason, the NFL offers live streaming for out-of-market preseason games through their NFL Game Pass services. For those around the Detroit area, the games will be televised locally on FOX 2 Detroit.
