Detroit Lions OTA highlights: Watch Jared Abbrederis make a one-handed grab

Jared Abbrederis continues to make an impression during Lions OTAs.

One of the most anticipated camp battles for the Detroit Lions this offseason is at wide receiver. The Lions’ top three receivers are pretty much set with Golden Tate, Marvin Jones Jr. and rookie Kenny Golladay. However, that fourth spot is up for grabs between four or five different receivers. TJ Jones, Jace Billingsley and Keshawn Martin are all realistic choices to make Detroit’s final 53-man roster.

But it is Jared Abbrederis who has stood out through the first two weeks of OTAs. During the Lions only open practice last week, Abbrederis caught the eye of ESPN’s Michael Rothstein. “This was a good day for Abbrederis, though, as his number was consistently one I wrote down in a positive vein,” Rothstein wrote.

On Thursday, with no media present, Abbrederis still managed to create some buzz. The Detroit Lions released a two minute highlight reel of Detroit’s sixth OTA session, and Abbrederis’ impressive one-handed grab immediately stuck out. Start at the 16 second mark:

This isn’t the only highlight catch made by Jared Abbrederis in the Lions’ six OTA practices thus far. Last week, Abbrederis went vertical and snagged a ball out of the air with Nevin Lawson in tight coverage down the sideline. Check it out at the 55 second mark below:

Abbrederis was added in January when he was signed to a futures contract after the regular season had ended. He had previously spent two season with the Green Bay Packers before he was waived and reached an injury agreement with the team early in his third season with the team.

The path to making the Lions final roster is just beginning for Abbrederis, but if he can continue to make an impression during practices, he could very well make his claim to that fourth wide receiver spot and end up with the team in September.
