We love the Detroit Lions. Everybody knows that. We all may have different favorite players or even some Lions players we don’t particularly like. But for the most part, we see the good in the team over the bad.
The same can’t be said for the rest of the 31 franchises. While, of course, most of us wish no serious ill will upon Detroit’s opponents, they are still considered villains in the eyes of competition.
But sometimes a player can rise above that designation. Sometimes a player is either so impressive on the field or so charismatic off it that you can’t help but like them.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
Who is your favorite current NFL player that is not on the Detroit Lions?
My answer: Larry Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald, to me, is everything you could possibly want in a professional athlete. Not only is he an extremely impressive player (10 of 13 seasons with over 900 receiving yards) and continues to play that way well into his 30s, but he’s just as extraordinary of a person.
Fitzgerald won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award for the 2016 season, and was a finalist back in 2012. He is well known for his charitable efforts, having created two separate foundations in his name: One—First Down Fund—aimed towards youth to promote positive activities, and the other—Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund—to help raise awareness and funds for serious medical issues like breast cancer, which took his mother in 2003.
Fitzgerald has always struck me as one of the most genuine people in the NFL and one of the most caring. Oh, and he did this to the Green Bay Packers, too:
Your turn.
