The Detroit Lions announced on Tuesday morning that Miller Lite is the new official beer partner for the team. Prior to this agreement, Bud Light was the official beer of the team. Ford Field even had a few sponsored sections of the stadium sponsored by Bud Light, including the Bud Light Party Zone.

Miller Lite will now have a section of Ford Field of theirs, as part of the $100 million renovations the building is currently undergoing, called the Miller Lite Taproom. Bill Shea of Crain’s Detroit has more information on the modernized section:

In addition to the new taproom, the team announced that MillerCoors products will be sold throughout the entire stadium for both Lions and any other Ford Field events. “Miller Lite is playing an active role in helping us complete this new communal fan experience and making it unique to our stadium,” team president Rod Wood said in a formal statement.

In with Miller, out with Budweiser. Are you okay with that?

UPDATE: Crain’s Detroit is reporting that Anheuser-Busch will still be the main provider of Ford Field’s domestic beer:

The naming rights deal means this will be the first time MillerCoors products will be offered during Lions games, a team spokesman said. The venue has primarily offered St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch's beers since the stadium opened in 2002. AB still will be the stadium's primary domestic beer provider.

UPDATE #2: Apparently it will be more a 50/50 situation between Miller and Bud:

A team source confirmed with Pride Of Detroit that both Miller and Bud products will be “equally available throughout the stadium.”

So you can have your beer and drink it too.
