Don Carey has been working on his first published book for almost a year now. The motivational book, entitled “It’s Not Because I’m Better Than You,” aims to lay groundwork for young people to achieve success in the world, not just in the NFL.
“The reason that I wrote the book is my wife and I go throughout the country and speak to youth in the offseason all the time,” Carey told the Detroit Free Press late last year. “And we’re shocked at how many people have a goal or dream but they don’t really have a practical way of getting that.”
It has been several months since Carey has finished the book—which took him just four months to complete—and it is now scheduled to be released on October 15. But Carey took to Twitter on Monday morning to announce that a limited amount of autographed copies of the book were available for pre-purchase:
Never thought I'd be a published author but through hard work I did it!

Not only does Carey’s book hope to provide a blueprint for youngsters to achieve their goals, but if you purchase one of these signed copies, the money will go straight to his foundation, The Don Carey REECH Foundation, which aims “to provide students the opportunity of academic achievement and exposure to diverse arenas.”
In the past, Carey’s philanthropic efforts have earned him recognition both from his team and from the NFL. Carey was named the Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee for the Detroit Lions last year. In 2015, he was also named the Week 10 NFLPA Community MVP.
