It’s gameday. In just a few hours, the Detroit Lions will take The New Ford Field™ for the first time.
The home crowd will be rocking, the new mega-screens will be beaming with light and the WiFi will be (hopefully) humming along for all of those in attendance. All the while, the Honolulu Blue crowd will be sporting these dope sunglasses.
The Detroit Lions will kick off the first of two consecutive home preseason games on Saturday. The New York Jets come to town as the Lions break in the new Ford Field, fresh off its $100 million face lift this offseason.
Both the Jets and the Lions are coming off a Week 1 preseason victory. The Lions handily beat the Colts from start to finish, while the Jets eked out a 7-3 victory over the Tennessee Titans in an ugly game.
Though the Lions looked like the superior team last week, they also came out of the game with two significant injuries on defense. Both Kerry Hyder and Brandon Copeland were lost for the season, and the Lions will be scrambling to find their replacements on an already thin roster. This will be a good opportunity to see if Jeremiah Valoaga and Alex Barrett can continue their promising start to the preseason.
I’m not sure there’s a team with less expectations for this season than the Jets. Many have even accused them of pre-tanking after ridding themselves of David Harris, Nick Mangold, Darrelle Revis and Eric Decker this offseason. They aren’t expected to compete in the AFC East this year, but they could be eyeing that first overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
To get you ready for Saturday’s game, here is all of the gameday information you’ll need to consume more Lions football.
