Late Tuesday night, our friends at the Mothership SB Nation asked a simple, yet interesting question:
What's the best sports game you've ever seen in person?
— SB Nation (@SBNation) August 1, 2017
We’ve asked similar questions in the past. What was the Lions game of the year? What is your favorite Lions memory? What is your favorite play in Lions history?
All good questions, but there’s something perfect about SB Nation’s question in its simplicity.
So let’s shamelessly steal it. Today’s Question of the Day is:
What is the best sports game you’ve ever seen in person?
My answer: I’ve mentioned this a few times before, but the best game I ever went to was the 2011 Lions-Raiders game in Oakland. The Lions won after Matthew Stafford led Detroit to a 98-yard game-winning drive in the final minutes of the game. I detailed my entire experience on this very site six years ago.
The second-best game I’ve ever attended came from inside The Big House. In 2004, my freshman year at the University of Michigan, the Wolverines mounted one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the UM-MSU rivalry.
The Wolverines were down by 17 with under seven minutes remaining in the game. They would end up winning in triple overtime.
I can still see the Braylon Edwards leaping up in the back right corner of the endzone to score the game-tying touchdown with three minutes left in the game, and then just dominating all three overtime possessions.
I wish the rest of my years at Michigan would have been that successful.
