Monday mornings are unique in the NFL. Unlike any other sport, football has a day literally devoted to reactions. After a win, there’s no better feeling. Strolling into work with your chest out just waiting for your co-workers to ask you about the game. After a loss, you want to bury yourself in work until next Sunday.
And when it’s after the first week of the season, emotions are even more polarized. The 1-0 teams are on their way to certain division titles, while the 0-1 teams better start doubling down on their scouting department for the 2018 NFL Draft.
Of course it’s all overblown, like it is every week, but it’s still fun to gauge the fanbase. Today’s Question of the Day is:
Do you feel better, worse or the same about the Detroit Lions after their win over the Arizona Cardinals?
My answer: A lot better. My biggest concern for this team was easily their defense. While I thought we’d see improvement from this team over the course of the 2017 season, I didn’t think we’d really see it until the bye week.
Of course, it’s too early to make any sweeping judgments about who the Lions defense truly is—maybe the Cardinals offense will end up ranking among the bottom five in the league. Still, the Lions defense didn’t play like this even against some of the worst offenses in the NFL last year. As long as they stay relatively healthy, they should be markedly better, and that means a LOT to this team right now.
The offense is pretty much where it was last year, which isn’t really a good thing, but it is good enough for the time being.
Your turn.
