Last week, when the Lions released veteran linebacker Nick Bellore, we mentioned that he may come back due to a salary loophole for veterans. That’s exactly what the team ended up doing, re-signing the linebacker to the 53-man squad on Monday afternoon. To make room for Bellore, the Lions have waived offensive tackle Storm Norton.
Had Bellore been on the Week 1 roster, his annual salary of $775,000 would have been guaranteed for the entire season. His new contract terms were not immediately disclosed.
As for Storm Norton, he will hit waivers yet again, after being promoted to the 53-man roster this weekend. Strangely, Norton was still kept inactive on gameday, despite the fact that fellow offensive tackle Corey Robinson was also inactive with a foot injury.
Norton could very well return to the practice squad again, presuming that he clears waivers in the next 24 hours. Though at the moment, the Lions already have 10 players on their practice squad roster.
In addition to these moves, the Lions also added a new defensive tackle to the practice squad. Daniel Ross, an undrafted rookie out of Northeast Mississippi Community College, joins Pat O’Connor and Earl Okine as three defensive linemen currently on the practice squad. Here’s a look at the 10-man roster as it currently stands:
LB Thurston Armbrister
CB Adairius Barnes
WR Jace Billingsley
C Leo Koloamatangi
S Rolan Milligan
DE Pat O’Connor
DE Earl Okine
DT Daniel Ross
WR Noel Thomas
TE Hakeem Valles
