For the second straight year, Jace Billingsley just missed the cut to make the Lions’ final 53-man roster. Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press had the news, as the Lions near the final hour of roster cuts and still have plenty of names to strike from the records.
The Lions are waiving Jace Billingsley. Jared Abbrederis could be in as the 5th WR.

All offseason, we heard a lot of hype about how Billingsley could be a surprise contributor in 2017, but the Lions ended up drafting Kenny Golladay in the third round, and it looks like Billingsley couldn’t beat out the rest of his competition by edging out either Jared Abbrederis or TJ Jones.
The Lions appear ready to move forward with Jones or Abbrederis as part of the team this year—or possibly both if the team decides to keep five receivers. As for Billingsley, he’s once again practice squad eligible, but after another solid preseason, it’s not certain he’ll clear waivers again this year.
