The Detroit Lions released their first injury report of the season on Wednesday and the team looks pretty healthy heading into Week 1. For the second practice in a row, all 53 players participated on some level.
However, the team isn’t exactly at full strength. According to Wednesday’s report, defensive end Ezekiel Ansah participated in a limited fashion due to a knee injury. Ansah sat out of all training camp and preseason after being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list in late July. The Lions took Ansah off the PUP list last Friday.
Last year, Ansah was limited with a high ankle sprain. It’s good news that this injury doesn’t appear to be related to that, but still a bit worrying that he’s hampered by this new knee injury.
In addition to Ansah, Kenny Golladay, Corey Robinson and Zach Zenner were also limited in practice. Robinson is likely still recovering from foot surgery that ended his season last year. He, too, was just taken off the PUP list last Friday.
As for the Zenner (back) and Golladay (ankle) injuries, those appear to be new, although both did not play in the preseason finale. Of course, a lot of players that made the final 53-man roster did not play in that game, so it’s hard to know if that was an injury precaution or planned sittings.
The Cardinals aren’t so lucky with their injuries. Starting linebacker Deone Bucannon reaggrivated his ankle this week and head coach Bruce Arians said on Wednesday there is “no chance” he’ll play this week.
Defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche also missed Wednesday’s practice, but Arians was optimistic that he’d practice again on Thursday.
