If you’ve followed me long enough, you know that I abhor the offseason. Every single part of it. I’m not a draft head. I hate the buildup of RUMORS and REPORTS (see: this week) with no payoffs. I hate mock drafts and everything they represent. I hate obsessing over every “insulting” prediction for the upcoming season and I hate making predictions myself.
But I realize there are plenty who don’t think like me. Some actually prefer the offseason. Building a franchise is the appealing part of football to them. They live for Franchise Mode in Madden video games, while I just skip to the gameplay.
That being said, there are offseason events for all of us. Even I eventually get swept up in some of the excitement. So today’s Question of the Day is:
What is your favorite offseason event?
My answer: Day 1 of the NFL Draft. I think the league hits on the pageantry of the NFL Draft perfectly on Day 1. The players are there in attendance ready for the moment that will change their lives forever. Fans are either there on site, or glued to the screen as the seconds tick down before their team makes a pick that is certain to change their fortunes. There are last-minute trades and unexpected turns at every corner. It’s the closest thing to being a sport that isn’t actually a sport.
As far as an NFL event, Day 1 of the draft is hard to beat. That being said, the rest of the draft is booooooooooooooring. There, I said it.
