Matt Patricia isn’t yet the head coach of the Detroit Lions and he won’t be for at least two more weeks. However, it’s essentially a done deal based on every report we’ve seen and every indication from New England.
So with that out of the way, Detroit Lions fans have been treated to a few New England Patriots games over the past two weeks. Wide-eyed fans have looked specifically to Patricia to see how he works and what he may bring to Detroit.
After a slow start to Sunday’s AFC Conference Championship game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, many Lions fans were beginning to worry about the hire, and even some national analysts were getting into it.

But the Patriots righted the ship and came out victorious.
So today’s Question of the Day is:
Do you feel better, worse or the same about the hire after the Patriots’ win over the Jaguars?
My answer: The same. It would have been silly to change my opinion of Patricia based on one game and one game alone. It honestly wouldn’t have mattered if the Patriots got blown out or completely shut out Blake Bortles and the Jaguars.
That being said, it’s pretty nice to see the Patriots defense bounce back and adjust in back-to-back weeks. Last week against the Titans, they allowed a 95-yard touchdown drive on the second drive of the game. They would end up shutting out Tennessee the rest of the way until the final two minutes of the game.
In Sunday’s game, the Jaguars scored a quick 14 points in the first half. However, they only scored six points in the last two quarters and managed just two first downs in the entire fourth quarter.
But, again, all of that is purely anecdotal in terms of Patricia’s larger body of work. He’s now in his sixth year as defensive coordinator and his performance on Sunday did little to change my opinion of him.
