The stage for Super Bowl LII is set. The New England Patriots will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch from Super Bowl XXXIX 13 years ago.
The Eagles got to this point by blowing out the Minnesota Vikings in shocking fashion. Nick Foles played a near perfect game, putting up the most impressive performance in his entire career. The Jim Schwartz-led defense did the rest, rattling Case Keenum and the Vikings offense for all four quarters.
In the other conference, the Patriots did what they always seem to do: Win. The Jacksonville Jaguars didn’t make it easy, but they failed to put them away after jumping out to an early lead. Tom Brady and the Patriots will now play in their third Super Bowl in four years and eighth in the past 17 years.
So today’s Question of the Day is simply:
Who are you rooting for in Super Bowl LII?
My answer: I can’t find myself rooting for the Patriots to win anymore. It’s like rooting for the sun to rise every day. It’s bound to happen, but where’s the fun or excitement in that? Nearly everyone on the team has already won a Super Bowl, and I really don’t need to see pictures of Tom Brady wearing six rings. Spread the wealth, Tom.
But... then there’s the Eagles. I don’t really have anything personally against the team or their players, but... man, their fans make it hard to root for them. Whether they’re insulting a 99-year old or hurling full beers at visiting fans, Philly fans always seem to live up to their awful stereotype when they’re in the spotlight.
Ultimately I’m just rooting for a competitive, entertaining game, but when it comes down to it, I just can’t root for the Patriots.
Your turn.
