Saturday open thread: Which team are you rooting for in the playoffs?

The 2017 NFL Playoffs begin today. Who are you pulling for?

NFL: Jacksonville Jaguars at Buffalo Bills Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions 2017 season is over. I hate to keep reminding you of this fact, but you just don’t seem to be getting it. IT’S OVER. I don’t like it any more than you, but it’s time to face the facts. That team is gone and gone forever.

And while there’s plenty of offseason excitement everywhere with the coaching and the free agents and the draft and the hoyvin glavin, there’s actually football after death. 12 teams remain, and while none of those teams will bring home a championship as satisfying as a Detroit Lions championship, there’s no reason not to ride a team for the next month in the hopes of a vicarious Super Bowl win.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Which team will you be rooting for in the remainder of the NFL playoffs?

My answer: While my first priority is to witness good, competitive games, the team I’m rooting for is the Buffalo Bills.

They have the makings of everything a Lions fan could want.

  • An extremely painful past
  • The ending of a long playoff drought
  • Extreme long-shot
  • Self-deprecating, but loyal fanbase
  • Fans that are appreciative of what they got

It’s that last point that really won me over to become a temporary member of the #BillsMafia. When Andy Dalton threw a miracle touchdown last week against the Ravens to help send Buffalo to the playoffs, not only did it create this awesome moment in the locker room, but Bills fans flooding Dalton’s charity with donation after donation:

There’s a very good chance the Bills are eliminated on Sunday when they face a Jaguars team that is almost certainly better on paper, but who are we but believers in miracles? We’re Lions fans, fergodsakes. The Bills are our spiritual twins.

Your turn.
