The Lions coaching search may be coming to an end.

Before we get into this, I want to stress that this is very much still a rumor and there is currently only one report out there.

But according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the New England Patriots are preparing for defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to leave the team at the end of the season. According to Florio, Patricia is “most likely” going to become the next head coach of the Detroit Lions.

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots are bracing for defensive coordinator Matt Patricia to leave, most likely to become the next coach of the Detroit Lions.”

If this is true, we won’t likely get an official announcement from the Lions in some time. The Lions cannot officially hire Patricia while he’s still working for the Patriots and New England could go deep into the playoffs.

We’ll continue to follow this situation and provide any additional updates from other sources.

UPDATE 1: CBS’ Jason La Canfora didn’t confirm or even provide his own sources on the situation, but he did say on the CBS pregame show that Patricia was “in line to be coach of the Lions:”
