The Detroit Lions bye week is here and that means carefree football for Week 6! No increased blood pressure as Matthew Stafford tries to mount a three-score comeback. No hand-wringing over coaching decisions to punt on fourth-and-1 or handing the ball of to the back you don’t want in the game.
Nope, we get to sit back and relax as a handful of teams the Lions will be competing with later in the season undoubtedly lose, and, yeah, I suppose some will win, too. But unless you’re one of those (millions of) people that obsess a little too much about their fantasy teams, this week presents the opportunity to just watch football and enjoy the product for what it is.
It all kicks off with an NFC East showdown between equally disappointing teams. The New York Giants were hoping a new coaching staff would help eliminate some of the drama, but Odell Beckham Jr. made sure that wasn’t the case last week by going to the media with his issues. Unrelated: the Giants are 1-4 and are longshot to turn it around this season.
The Eagles, on the other hand, came in with much higher expectations having just won a Super Bowl. Not much on the roster has seemingly changed, but Philly is off to a disappointing 2-3 start.
Luckily for both teams, the NFC East is wide open right now and a win on Thursday could send either team on the right path the rest of the way.
Here’s how to watch “Thursday Night Football.”
