The Green Bay Packers have been accused by many—including their own fans—of being a one-man team. Aaron Rodgers has been the face of that franchise for years now, and so goes Rodgers, as do the Packers. When he’s on, the Packers are as dangerous as any other team in the NFL. We he’s off or injured, the Packers aren’t just mortal, they’re bad. His supporting cast has always seemed lackluster, which is likely why Rodgers only has a single championship to his name.
But this year, the Packers went out and found themselves a new general manager, and although they’re off to just a modest 2-1-1 start, many believe there’s something different about this Packers team. There may be some more dangerous players on both sides of the ball that opposing coaches will have to account for. So today’s Question of the Day is:
Which Packers player, outside of Aaron Rodgers, scares you most for?
My answer: Aaron Jones.
It’s no secret that the Detroit Lions’ run defense has been an absolute disaster thus far. They’ve made Matt Breida and Isaiah Crowell look like elite backs and Ezekiel Elliott look like... well, Ezekiel Elliott.
Jones is exactly the type of back Detroit has been vulnerable to: a speedy, shifty guy that can test the edges of the defense.
He’s had a modest start to the season after serving a two-game suspension. In Weeks 3 and 4, he combined for 17 carries, 107 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Packers like to spread their distribution in the backfield, but Jones’ 6.3 yards per carry may be enough to warrant more touches over Jamaal Williams (3.4 YPC) and Ty Montgomery (4.5 YPC).
Rodgers is always a scary player to go up against, but he may not even have to be himself on Sunday if the Lions can’t stop Jones.
Your turn.
