Wednesday open thread: Are you planning on watching the Detroit Lions less now?

With the stakes now mostly gone, are you going to be watching less of the team in 2018?

Not to beat a dead horse here, but the Detroit Lions’ 2018 season is essentially over when it comes to their chances at the postseason. They’re far from mathematically eliminated, but considering their ceiling is just 10-6, it’s impossible to imagine this team gets it together enough to rattle off seven straight wins.

So Sundays for Lions fans have taken on a new tone. Some fans will watch in the hopes see just a little bit of improvement. Others will watch to see Detroit use some of their younger players take over. Some may watch hoping the Lions lose for a better draft pick. And there’s a pretty good chance other Lions fans will tune out completely.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Are you planning on watching the Lions less in the final two months of the season?

My answer: Obviously my answer is no, as I have a professional duty to watch the remaining seven games. There’s a pretty good chance I’d be watching anyways. I’m too invested in this team to not watch the 16 games they give us every year. While some fans crave for the offseason and love mock drafting and putting their GM hat on, I love football for the game itself. I can still find enjoyment out of the game breaking down the strategy and nuances in each play.

Don’t get me wrong, this team has not been fun to watch at all over the past three weeks, and, at times, I’ve really wanted to change the channel to a better game, but with the stakes and emotions now removed, it’s actually now a little easier for me to look at the game critically and analytically.

Your turn.
