The Detroit Lions are in the middle of a stretch of 12 days in which they’ll play three regular season games. As a result, head coach Matt Patricia elected to make Wednesday’s practice a walkthrough, as they prepare for Sunday’s contest against the Carolina Panthers.
Marvin Jones Jr. did not practice, which reflects Adam Schefter’s report that the Lions receiver suffered a bone bruise and is considered day-to-day. A’Shawn Robinson, who suffered an ankle injury but returned to play against the Bears, joined Jones on the sideline Wednesday and may sit out this week against the Panthers.
The one piece of good news for the Lions, however, is that Darius Slay did return to practice after missing all of last week’s practices and Sunday’s game. Wednesday, he was still limited with that knee injury suffered right before the Vikings game, but is trending in the right direction.
For the Panthers, most notably, quarterback Cam Newton was limited in practice with a shoulder injury. Reports suggest that he did not throw during the media portion of practice, but that’s not the first time this has happened this year. Back in October, head coach Ron Rivera suggested this was the “new normal” for Newton. Still, it’s something to monitor throughout the week.
