LISTEN: Best Lions vs. Panthers radio calls: ‘Kenny Golladay, you’re a freak’

Dan Miller: Still a national treasure.

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with the Detroit Lions’ local radio play-by-play man Dan Miller. The past few weeks haven’t been kind to the Lions, and as a result, the local radio calls haven’t been too fun to listen to. No disrespect to Dan intended- there was absolutely no reason for excitement in Detroit’s past three losses.

But on Sunday, the Lions were actually making plays against the Carolina Panthers, and Miller was back in true form, killing it with his radio calls.

So here is the best—from the best—radio calls from the Lions’ Week 11 win.

The play was so well executed that it was almost boring, but Dan nails it by noting the key block from Kenny Golladay on this score. Watch it again:

But let’s not beat around the bush here. You all came here to listen to Dan Miller call the Lions’ game-winning touchdown, and I promise you, it does not disappoint.

Kenny Golladay, you’re a freak”

This could go down as one of Dan Miller’s best radio calls, and man, does he have some great ones in his history. It’s almost like three weeks of unused excitement exploded in one moment of euphoria.

“Oh baby, what a catch!” Miller exclaimed. “Kenny Golladay, you’re a freak. What a catch! Touchdown, Detroit Lions. Oh, he laid out and hogged that one in. How big is that!”

Then Lomas Brown, bless his heart, did his little SportsCenter ditty at the end. So awkward, yet so perfect.

Recap

WJR was nice enough to throw together a montage of the entire game with radio calls from all of Sunday’s key plays, including the two-point conversion stop and the onside kick recovery. Listen to it below:
